🐑 Why Wool Felt (Walk) Is So Popular
Wool Felt / Walkloden / Boiled Wool
The wool I use for my handmade pieces comes from sheep raised in Australia and Uruguay. These farms follow the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) – meaning the animals are cared for responsibly and ethically.
🤎 This also guarantees that the wool is mulesing-free. 🤎
What is Mulesing?
Mulesing is a painful procedure used to protect sheep from flystrike. It involves removing skin around the tail area – often without anesthesia.
This method is still practiced in parts of Australia and New Zealand, where flies lay their eggs in the warm, moist folds of skin contaminated with urine and feces. The larvae then burrow into the skin, causing severe infections and, in some cases, death.
That’s why I only use mulesing-free wool. From the very beginning. Always.
